Dennis "Denny" George Daly, 84, of Ankeny passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by loved ones on February 18, 2024.
A private funeral service was held at Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Catholic Church on February 21, 2024. An interment followed for Denny at Ankeny Memorial Gardens.
Denny was born June 2, 1939, in Waterloo, Iowa to Joseph and Hazel Daly. He attended Sacred Heart High School. It was during this time he met his sweetheart, Sandra Neuhalfen. Denny and Sandy were married on April 11, 1959. Denny attended Creighton University and retired from John Deere in 1992.
Denny spent many years boating and fishing on Clear Lake, volunteering, and socializing with his numerous friends. He was a sports fan and enjoyed cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Denny was also a third-degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He had many happy memories on the golf course, including golfing with his family in Ireland and attending the Masters tournament with Sandy.
Denny loved his four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren deeply. His love and support were unmatched. He will be remembered for his love and devotion to his family and God. Denny had an amazing wit and wonderful sense of humor. His joyful smile and the twinkle in his eye will be greatly missed.
Denny is survived by his wife Sandy; his daughter Kim (Tim) Kelsey; his sons Michael (David) Daly and Steven (Sheila) Daly; his granddaughters, Erin (Derrick) Mayfield, Brita (Travis) Head, Caitlin (Michael) Bougher, and Kennedy Daly; his great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews and other loving family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Hazel Daly; his brother Patrick Daly; and his sisters, Joan Aldinger, Connie McMahon, and Annette Peters.
The family wishes to thank the compassionate staff at MercyOne Hospice for the extraordinary care for Denny during his final days.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to MercyOne Des Moines Hospice Care, 500 Southwest 7th Street Suite 104, Des Moines, IA 50309.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Clear Lake, Iowa in June 2024, with details to follow.
