Mr. Richards, son of the late Donald Yvonne Richards, Sr. and Betty Lou Walker Richards, was born May 29, 1954, in Battle Creek, Michigan. He retired from the U.S. Army, where he served his country honorably for over 20 years. During his distinguished military career, he served in many stateside and overseas assignments. Mr. Richards was awarded numerous medals and ribbons, including the Meritorious Service Medal; Army Commendation Medal (with 4 OLC); and Army Achievement Medal (with 7 OLC). Because of his unique and gifted talents, he was trained in Air Assault, Sniper training; Armor; and Infantry. Mr. Richards was also chosen for the French Commando School, part of the Berlin Brigade. Retiring as a Sergeant First Class, he always treasured the military service he gave to his country.
After retiring from the Army in 2004, he worked at Fort Benning, where he managed the CIF (Central Issue). He also implemented the Luau at Fort Benning, which began to be an annual event, an event many look forward to each year.
Mr. Richards stayed active for many years by running and lifting weights. He stayed active in community affairs, always willing to help in any way possible. Mr. Richards enjoyed spending time with his family, and taking short vacation trips, particularly in Gatlinburg and West Virginia. At home, he always maintained his yard and was known always to have the laundry done.
The family remembers him as a wonderful provider – always giving to others.

Richards of Columbus; four sons, Donald Yvonne Richards, III and his wife Raquel of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Paul Michael Richards and his wife Kim of St. Claire, Michigan, Trinity Lee Richards and his wife Gina of Prattville, Alabama, and Donnie Yvonne Richards IV of Columbus; three sisters; one brother, David Richards and his wife Gracie of Scottsdale, Arizona; grandchildren, Johnnie, Terryn, Trinity Jr., Kyla, and other grandchildren; an Aunt Shelby and Uncle Jack; and many other relatives and friends.
