A Time to Be Born:
Dr. Dorothy Nell Washington was born on December 22, 1950, in Sylvester, Georgia to the late Luke Franklin and Mary Solomon.
A Time to Learn:
Dr. Washington received her early education in the Worth County School System. After graduation, she attended Albany State University.
A Time to Plant:
Dr. Washington accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and served faithfully until her death. She worshipped and served first at Bright Morning Star Baptist Church, Sylvester, Georgia, under the tutelage of Pastor Deitrick Henry and later at Little Morning Star Baptist Church, Albany GA under the tutelage of Pastor Napolean Prince, Dr. Roland Jenkins and Pastor Ollie Petty. While there she served on many auxiliaries, with her favorite being the choir. As a devoted wife, she served as First Lady of Zion Christian Fellowship Ministries International, Inc. of Albany, Ga under the tutelage of Dr. Willie James Washington, Sr.
A Time to Build Up:
In college, Dr. Washington discovered her interest and passion for children and became a social worker. This passion led to her opening her own business, formally known as East Albany Christian Daycare where she was the owner and operator. She also served as a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority.
A Time to Love:
Dr. Washington married the love of her life, Mr. Willie James Washington, Sr. on February 26, 1974. This union brought one devoted daughter, Mrs. Sonja Vontrica Washington-Dollison (Glynn) and two devoted sons: Mr. Anthony Vekedrick Washington and Mr. Willie James Washington, Jr.
A Time to Laugh:
Dr. Dorothy Washington was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and mentor to many. She was every child's Godmother.
A Time to Die:
She peacefully transitioned at her home in Albany, Georgia with her daughter by her side on June 29, 2023. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, and one sister, Ruby Mae Tift.
A Time of Peace:
She leaves to cherish her memories: a dedicated and loving husband of 49 years, Pastor Willie James Washington. Sr. A loving daughter, Mrs. Sonja VontricaWashington-Dollison (Glynn), Leesburg Ga.: two devoted sons: Mr. Anthony Vekedrick Washington, Albany GA, and Mr. Willie James Washington, Jr. (Krystal), Austell GA; four loving grandsons: Mr. Glynnis Dollison, II, Masters Jamison Washington and Jaxon Washington, and Mr. Jordan Kirksey; one sister, Barbara Wiley (Earl); one brother, Nathaniel Solomon (Kathy), McDonough, GA; two brothers-in-law, Pastor George Tift (Ruby) and JW Evans (Chiquita); two sisters-in-law, Rosie Coleman, Jacksonville, FL., and Mary Blakely, Albany, GA; two bonus God daughters, Laconya Willis and Jey Rogers; a God son, David Josiah Hall; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, friends, and other relatives.
