Dwight David Palmer

June 20, 1955 - November 30, 2022

Skilled woodworkers possess an eye for detail and quality not just for making things out of wood, but for making things that people will use daily. A meticulous woodworker, Dwight Palmer, died Wednesday, November 30th in his Bellevue apartment. Hobbled by several strokes and victimized by alcohol, Dwight was found by Jim Simakas, friend since grade school, who entered the apartment at the request of Dwight’s special friend, Ellen Small of Tampa, FL.  Dwight died with Maggie, a kind and gentle golden retriever, at his side.  In Shaler schools Dwight learned the trumpet and an appreciation of jazz. At Denison University, Dwight studied biological sciences and honed the power of creative thinking. In a building just off William Flynn Highway, Dwight opened his shop, Works in Wood, to craft custom cabinetry. It is impossible to capture the essence of this man; he could repair anything, advise on most things and create a table, desk or cabinet out of precious woods that would become one-of-a-kind cherished items. From his home in Allison Park, he and ex-wife, Eileen, raised daughters, Lauren and Jessica. An avid reader, he constantly had a history tome nearby. Dwight is predeceased by his father, William D Palmer, M.D. and his mother, Ruth McDonough Palmer, R.N.; besides his daughters, he is survived by a sister, Susan Hall, and brothers, Robert and Scott.  A celebration of life organized for family and close friends will be held on a weekend near the summer solstice and what would have been his 68th birthday. Anyone interested in the attending can email [email protected] or [email protected] for the specifics. Arr. by Bock Funeral Home, Ltd., Glenshaw.
