Edith Lynette Underwood Steponik

Edith Lynette Underwood Steponik, a devoted wife, loving mother, caring caregiver, and cherished friend, passed away on February 8, 2024, at Sentara Albemarle Medical Center in Elizabeth City, NC. She was born on November 4, 1949, in Fayetteville, NC.
Lynette, known for her warm heart and compassionate nature, dedicated over thirty years of her life as a caregiver, providing unwavering support and comfort to those in need. Her selfless commitment to helping others touched the lives of many and will be remembered with deep gratitude.
In her free time, Lynette found joy in various activities. She enjoyed playing bingo, finding excitement in each game and the camaraderie it brought. Tending to her yard, she took pride in maintaining its beauty and serenity. Lynette also loved embarking on long drives in her car, relishing the freedom of the open road. A special place in her heart was reserved for her beloved cat, Spunky. Lynette was affectionately known as "the pet" by her siblings.
Lynette is preceded in death by her parents, Walter Livingston Underwood and Edith Smith Underwood, her beloved husband, Frank "Dink" Steponik, her dear son, Frank Steponik, her sister, Betty Clark, and her brother, Johnny Underwood.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. Lynette is survived by her loving daughter, Lisa Chappell, and son-in-law, Kent of Hertford; her devoted son, Brian Steponik, and daughter-in-law, Crystal of Moyock; her sister, Janie Stoemer; her brother, James Underwood and sister-in-law, Georgetta; four cherished grandchildren, Brittany Proctor, Heather Chappell, Brian Steponik Jr., and Misty Steponik; and a precious great-grandchild, Hayes Proctor. Each of them held a special place in her heart.
A memorial service will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at Twiford Memorial Chapel with Pastor Greg Owenby officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives for a visitation at 2:00 p.m., prior to the service, in the lobby of the chapel. Lynette's service will be live streamed.
