Edward Letostak, 93, of Bogart (Athens), Georgia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 11, 2024. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Joan Spitko (2010) and his eldest daughter Ellen Joy (2017). He is survived by children: David (Audrey), Paul, Lindsay and Nancy (Richard); grandchildren: Jennifer (Joshua), Maureen, Benjamin, Alexandra, Katie, Michal, Richard, Madeleine and Jillian; and great-grandchildren: Ian and Logan.
He was a proud US Navy Veteran who served abroad during the Korean Conflict. He was a licensed small aircraft pilot and in his younger days, enjoyed taking family (and just about anybody that asked) up for rides. He was a participant in the 50th anniversary of air mail service fly-in at Hadley Field in South Plainfield, NJ.
He was a member of St Joseph’s Catholic Church (Athens, GA) where he was a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Knights of Columbus. His biggest priority was evidenced by his devotion to his grandchildren/great-grandchildren and regaling them with stories of his childhood. He was a very competitive person who enjoyed throwing horseshoes, playing corn hole, bowling, fishing, and beating his children at poker. He enjoyed cooking, gardening and building things with his own hands.
He is best remembered within the extended family for his Super 8 home movies of all events. Memories still circulate about the blinding floodlights required to create these movies…
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to the American Kidney Fund -or- the American Macular Degeneration Foundation.
