Eileen Keenan, at 91 years of age, passed away at her grandson's home in the early morning of May 28th. Born July 31st, 1933, Eileen experienced many hardships in her early years. Orphaned at the age of 16, she helped care for her sister Catherine along side her Aunt Mary. It wouldn't be until 1951, when she met her soon to be husband, James A Keenan III, that her life would begin a new with a family of her own.
The two would wed on May 24th, 1952, bearing her first son, James A Keenan IV, a year later and her second son, Patrick Keenan, shortly thereafter. Eileen worked in public service for the State of New Jersey for more than 30 years before retiring. She assisted the Lady's Auxiliary of the Skillman branch of the Elks, to whom her husband was an officer. She was also a cornerstone member of the West Trenton Garden Club, for which her home received several awards commemorating her beautiful garden.
A prolific story teller and true embodiment of an Irish woman, Eileen spun many tales for her friends and family over the many decades of her life. With her passing, the Keenan family has lost it's historian and her local church, Our Lady of Good Counsel, has lost one of its oldest and most devoted members of its congregation. She joins her husband of over 70 years and both her sons in God's Kingdom. She is survived by her two grandsons, Brian Patrick Keenan and James A Keenan V.
Funeral services will take place on Monday, June 2nd, with the viewing at Murphy Funeral Home in Ewing Township starting at 9:30am. A service will be held at Our Lady of Good Counsel shortly thereafter at 11am. Both events are open to the public for any who are available to pay their respects to one of the community's longest lived residents. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Eileen C.
