Eugene B. McCaul, Jr. (Gene), age 84 formerly of Jackson Heights, New York and Cherry Hill, New Jersey died peacefully with his children by his side on Monday, May 13, 2024.
Preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 22,085 days and nights, Margaret Anne McCaul, his parents Eugene B. McCaul and Helen McCaul (nee Collins), his sister Eileen (nee Collins) Herman, and his brother Phillip. He is survived by his sister Blanche (Dennis) Tait; his children Patricia (Michael Martin) McCaul, John (Jane) McCaul, Andrew (Sarma Ozols) McCaul, and Catharine McCaul; his six beloved grandchildren, Christina McCaul, Jack McCaul, Julia Martin, Aidan McCaul, Sophia McCaul, and Julian McCaul, numerous nieces and nephews, dear, dear friends too numerous to list, and his lifelong friend of over 70 years Bob Moll.
Gene was an active and generous member of Christ Our Light Parish. He served the church in so many ways from parish council to the week long parish carnival in the 1970's. He served with joy, and laughter with Margie by his side for 56 years. They were an inseparable, faith-filled team.
Gene lived a life that was a model of Christ-like generosity, compassion and care. He showed his children what steadfast love looked like in the way he cared for Margie, his parents, and his children. He showed up with gusto and zeal. If anyone needed help he would help. If something was broken, he would help you fix it, if you broke down on the side of the road at 2:00 AM he would show up with jumper cables, and a gas can without question. His first instinct was always to help with enthusiasm and a smile.
He loved to bring joy to any celebration by bringing his camera and capturing the best moments of our lives. He photographed so many joy filled moments for the parish, for friends, and for family. If he photographed your wedding, the photos probably arrived at the reception before you did.
He shared his love of tools and working with your hands with his grandchildren. He spent hours in "Papa Gene's Workshop" building birdhouses, cars, and wooden rubber band guns. He wasn't afraid to let a 5 year old work a circular saw (Margie loved that.)
He will be missed by family, friends, and neighbors.
In lieu of flowers feel free to make a memorial donation in Gene's name to The Alzheimer's Association.
In a final act of generosity, Gene has donated his body to the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School for research. We will celebrate Gene's faith-filled life in July at Christ Our Light Catholic Church, 402 Kings Hwy N, Cherry Hill, NJ 08034. To be notified by email of the arrangements, click here.
