Gary Allen Steinke

Gary Allen Steinke passed away Wednesday, August 30th, 2023 unexpectedly at his home in Mattawan. Gary was born on May 6th, 1960 to Phillip Allen Steinke and Louise Ann Ulrich in Kalamazoo, Michigan. After graduating from Gobles High School in 1979, Gary pursued his interest in cars. Early in his career, Gary was a part of Seelye Auto Group. During his time with the company, Gary made many good friends. While dressed for success, he met Carla, who he married at Trinity Lutheran Church in Paw Paw in 1995, where Gary was a longtime member.
Gary's life revolved around the automotive business and...waxing his truck. He worked at dealerships across West Michigan for nearly four decades. Selling was in his blood, and negotiating was a given. He found happiness within his family and friends... and waxing his truck. He loved cars, trucks, boats, snowmobiles, mini bikes, and especially his yellow Corvettes and Honda 70s. No matter what, if it was in Gary's garage, it was dialed in. On sunny days, Gary could be found cruising the beaches of South Haven, driving through car lots, and enjoying ice cream. He also spent his time watching sports, going to concerts, and...waxing his truck. He was always on the phone keeping up with his friends and the latest dealership gossip.
Gary's passion for cars was only surpassed by his love for God and family. He cherished his friends and family, especially his two children, and he had a special love for his granddaughter Emma. Gary is survived by his mother, Louise; Wife, Carla (Hendrixson) Steinke; children, Jeffrey Allen (Corey) Steinke, Jill Marie (AJ Walsh) Steinke; granddaughter, Emma Steinke; siblings, Brenda (Craig) Salisbury, Bruce Steinke, Todd Steinke; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews; and lifelong best friend Rex Reichenbach, along with many friends and acquaintances.
Please join us for a Celebration of Life in Gary's honor on Saturday, September 16th, 2023, from 3-7pm with food and drinks at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial and Cremation Services, 3926 South 9th Street, Kalamazoo, Michigan 49009. A prayer will be shared by our pastor at 5:00pm.
