John Daniel Steinke, 56, of Indianola, Iowa, passed away Friday, October 31, 2025 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. He was born on October 30, 1969 in St. Catherine's Hospital, McCook, Nebraska to John Robert Steinke and Kay Graham Steinke and his brother Kurt followed in 1972. They lived in McCook until 1974 when they moved to Waukee, Iowa. John was active in Boy Scouts and became an Eagle Scout. He participated in football, wrestling, and track in high school, graduating in 1988.

John attended the University of Nebraska for 3 years and then began his career in the data communications field as a voice data video technician. He worked for US West Communications, Computer Cable Connection, Baker Electric, Tri City Electric, ABC Electric, ABC Electrical Services and Baker Group throughout his career. Many friends and family relied on John's expertise in wiring and phone systems for help. He was also a member of the IBEW Local 347 for close to 25 years. John was an avid golfer and had weekly golf rounds with his friend George Probasco and co-worker Jeff Robinson. He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast starting at the age of 2 ½, wearing a path around the yard and later giving his brother Kurt rides on the back. He was also very handy and might fix things at his own pace around the house. Any dog was his friend and he was known as the sleep coach in the Moon family because he would welcome any baby to his shoulder for sleep training.

John met Lori Moon in 1996 at Emerson Elementary when they were remodeling. With the help of co-workers and exchanging numbers, they connected two weeks later. John and Lori were married on September 27, 1997 in Chariton, Iowa and resided in Indianola, Iowa. Their daughter Allyson Kathryn Steinke was born on January 11, 2003. John enjoyed watching Ally dance and following her many school activities. He shared his sarcastic humor and great wit with Allyson, which could entertain any room.

John is survived by his wife Lori Steinke of Indianola, daughter Allyson Steinke of Davenport, Iowa, parents John and Kay Steinke of Indianola, brother Kurt (Bridgit) Steinke of Waukee, Iowa, three brother and sisters-in-law and beloved dog Maeve. He is also survived by one aunt, one uncle, many nieces and nephews on both sides, and four cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents John and Ruby Steinke and Dean and Naida Graham, in-laws Norman and Connie Moon, one aunt, one uncle, and beloved dogs Goldie, Sharlotte, Suzie, Jake, Zeus and Hershey.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be held on Sunday, Nov 9, 2025 from 1 to 4 pm at St. James Celebrations in rural Indianola, Iowa, with a time of sharing at 3:00 pm. A memorial will be established for the JATC. The family requests casual dress in golf, Nebraska, work or t-shirt attire. A baseball cap and Birkenstocks are encouraged.
