Gerald Earl "Lil Jerry" Mire Jr.

Gerald Earl "Lil Jerry" Mire, Jr. passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family and friends on Monday, September 25, 2023, at the age of 70. He retired after 30 years at Dow Chemical as a material controller and from Iberville Parish after 10 years. Gerald was a resident of Addis and a native of Plaquemine, LA. Visitation will be held at Wilbert Funeral Home, Plaquemine on Thursday, September 28, 2023, from 5 to 9pm and will resume on Friday, September 29, 2023, from 8am to 9:30am with Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Plaquemine at 10am. Interment will follow at Grace Memorial Park, Plaquemine. Gerald is survived by his wife of 24 years, Susan Landry Mire; daughter, Kylie Mire Sanchez and husband Barry; grandchildren, Barry, Jr., Baylie and Brock Sanchez; siblings, Lea Mire Quigley and husband Kevin, Gustave "Andy" Mire, II, and Emma Mire Burge; Kylie's mother and stepfather, Sharon and Rusty Parrish; sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Debbie and Dwayne Sagona, Murray and Jill Landry, Mark and Mel Landry and Walter Herbert; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Marilyn Stevens Mire; sisters, Chloe Lyn Benandi and husband S.J. "Fats", and Mary Dell Herbert; sister-in-law, Brenda Mire; brother-in-law, Glenn Burge, Sr.; mother and father-in-law, Murray and Iris Simoneaux Landry; and nieces, Pia Benandi and Tiffany Burge. Pallbearers will be Barry Sanchez, Sr., Barry Sanchez, Jr., Andy Mire, Drew Mire, Kevin Quigley, and Glenn Burge. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Martin, Murray Landry, Mark Landry, Dwayne Sagona, Ryan Gomez, and Lloyd Landry. Gerald was an avid hunter and an honorary member of St. Louis Hunting Club. He loved tending to his garden, never met a stranger and loved talking to anyone who would listen. Special thanks to Comfort Care Hospice for their loving care. Also special thanks to John "Inky" and Mary Voison, Brian and Katarina Stocking and Susan Simpson for all their help during Jerry's illness. A very special thank you to Alison Boudreaux for being such a dear friend.
