Grace Ainsley Vickers, 19 years old, of Yakima, beloved daughter, sister, and friend, tragically passed away in a car accident on Highway 24, between Othello and Mattawa, Washington, on October 29, 2023.
Although her life was shorter than many, Grace's life was full. Grace was born on March 6, 2004, in Yakima, Washington. She attended Riverside Christian School K-12 (with a couple years of Classical Conversations homeschooling mixed in) and graduated a member of National Honor Society and co-salutatorian of her class in 2022. Her adventurous spirit led her to a high school study abroad program in Dover, England for three months of her senior year. Grace loved travel and described this trip as one of the best experiences of her life.
After high school, Grace was accepted to the University of Washington, where she enjoyed her classes and loved city life. By the end of her freshman year, Grace decided she wanted to be a teacher. This choice led her to come home to Yakima, find a job as a paraeducator in a special needs classroom at Davis High School, and finish her schooling online. Her goal was to become a secondary English teacher, and anyone who knows Grace will tell you she would have been perfect for the job. Her future was bright, and her goals within reach.
Outside of her academic achievements, Grace was the most self-motivated, creative person you could meet. She wrote a book at 16, taught herself to crochet, was a talented artist, and served as a whimsical Dungeon Master for her Dungeons and Dragons group. A comforting friend described her as, "beautiful and kind a gentle, nerdy joy to be around." Another dear friend of Grace declared, "never was a child so rightly named."
She is survived by her parents, Joe and Angie Vickers, and her siblings, Kate (Tom) Bolt, Luke Vickers, Marcus Vickers, Justin Vickers, Faith Vickers, and Benjamin Purves, as well as many extended family and wonderful friends. Her death was a heartbreaking shock to everyone who loved her.
We mourn the loss of the light she brought to our lives, her wit, vintage style, laughter, and joy will live on in the memories of those who love her. We take comfort knowing that her Savior has her in His arms and look forward to the day when we see her again in eternity.
"For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers nor height nor depth, nor anything in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 8:39.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at 10:00am, at Westside Church. Livestream will be available. The link can be found at www.brooksidefuneral.com.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to Rod's House or Riverside Christian School and sent in care of Brookside Funeral Home (PO Box 1267, Moxee, WA 98936), who is caring for the family.
