Gregory Arthur Jones

Gregory A. Jones of Comstock Park, Michigan, age 61, passed away suddenly on Saturday, September 3, 2022. He was born on May 17, 1961, in Boston, MA. Greg was the youngest of three children and grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was a 1979 graduate of The Albuquerque Academy and received a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of New Mexico. He worked as a chemical manager for The Chemico Group for 22 years. Greg is survived by his wife, Joy Jones, their two children, Zachary and Fiona Jones, his mother, Audrey P. Jones, and his siblings, Debbie (Brad) Smith and Evan Jones. He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Robert K. Jones.
In his youth, Greg had the outward appearance of compliance whilst leading a life of adventure. It started at age 1 ½ when he escaped Kirtland Air Force Base and made a mile and a half trek, solo, before being found by police. Later, his antics included stargazing atop the local elementary school and teaching himself to drive at 13 by secretly taking the family car out at night. As a child Greg had so much to share but couldn't get a word in edgewise with his two older siblings. He frequently had to raise his hand at dinner and say, "Excuse me, excuse me, may I say something?"
In 1992, he married his wife, Joy, after 8 years of indecision and they celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary this past July. Their marriage spanned two children, three states, five houses, seven dogs, and unfathomable love and friendship. Greg was incredibly proud of his children and all their accomplishments and he loved to spend time with them and laugh with them.
Greg enjoyed filling in for pastors at Rockford United Methodist Church as a certified lay speaker. He loved to attend all kinds of sporting events, from volleyball to soccer to baseball to hockey. He especially enjoyed going to West Michigan Whitecaps baseball games. He announced the Comstock Park High School men's home soccer games for four years. Greg was an avid and talented skier who only wanted to ski in the Rocky Mountains. He loved to read, do crossword puzzles (in pen), and listen to all kinds of music. While not a particularly gifted musician, he was part of the church handbell choir. In his free time at home, Greg tended his garden and lawn and sat outside on the back deck every day he could.
The family would like to thank those in the park who performed CPR on Greg that day for their efforts to help him.
A private visitation and ceremony was held by his immediate family on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at Pederson Funeral Home, 127 N. Monroe Street NE, Rockford, MI. A Celebration of Life will be held virtually at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 1, 2022.
