James L. Barnes Jr.

James L. "Jim" Barnes, Jr., age 75, died Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at his home in Oregon, IL. He was born November 16, 1947 in Decatur, IL the son of James L. and Barbara J. (Taft) Barnes, Sr. He graduated from Oregon High School in 1966. He then served his country in the U.S. Army from 1967 – 1969. Jim married Diane M. Tobey on April 29, 1972. She preceded him in 2007. Jim worked over 40 years for E.D. Etnyre and Company in Oregon, IL. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was an active member of the Oregon VFW Post 8739. Jim loved sports, especially enjoying bowling and playing softball. He also was a softball umpire for many years. Jim was predeceased by his parents Jim and Barb Barnes, his wife Diane Barnes, his brother Allen Scott Barnes, his nephews James Pearson and Sean Rodriquez, his niece Amanda Heimstead, and his beloved dog Dee Dee. Jim is survived by his 2 children: Lisa (Adam) Albee of Dixon and Timothy (Melissa) Barnes of Forreston; 4 grandchildren: Cainen Lucas, Alexander Albee, Lucas Albee, and Charlie Barnes, sisters Virginia (Robert) Pearson of Oregon and Penny (William) Stoughton of Butlar, PA. Funeral service with military honors will be held 11:00 am, Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at the Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 110 S. 7th Street, Oregon, IL with the Pastor David Rogula officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5-7 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery near Oregon. A memorial fund is established for the Oregon VFW Post 8739.
