William Barnes Obituary

William G. (Bill) Barnes, aged 92 years, passed away peacefully on September 14th, 2025 in Roseburg, Oregon. Born on September 15th, 1932 in Borger, Texas to Velmer and Pauline Barnes, he was preceded in death by his Brother Marshall. A devoted husband of 67 years to his Wife LaVonne and a proud father, grandfather and great grandfather, William was a machinist and planner/estimator at Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo, Ca. where he served his machinist apprenticeship. He was an avid archer and long time member of the Silverado Archery Club in Napa, Ca. for many years. He loved to fish having grown up with a father and brother who were avid fishermen. William served in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1954 achieving the rank of Petty Officer 1st class, and served on the USS Halsey Powell (DD-686) during the Korean War. William and LaVonne travelled and lived in several places including Texas, Washington, Oregon and California, where they enjoyed working on their homes and gardens. He will be remembered for his kindness, sense of humor and especially for his many stories that we have all enjoyed and been entertained by for many years. A celebration of Life will be held at the Pelusi Building, 2296 Streblow Drive, Kennedy Park Napa, Ca. beginning at 12:00 on Saturday, November 22nd, 2025 William Gene Barnes
