James E. Schaefer, 74, of Eden, passed with family by his side, on Monday, August 14, 2023, at Clement J. Zablocki Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Milwaukee. He was born on February 4, 1949, in Fond du Lac, the son of Gilbert and Virginia (Richter) Schaefer. James served in the US Army in the Vietnam War. On October 16, 1971, he married Audrey Karls at Presentation Church in North Fond du Lac. James worked at Oshkosh Corporation until his retirement in 2011. He was a member of the American Legion. In his spare time, James enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bird watching.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey; two children, Jackie (Rory) Schlomann and Jason (Trish) Schaefer; five grandchildren, Evelyn, Jackson, Alyson, Emerson, and Gregory; three siblings, Ron (Jennifer) Schaefer, Mary Schaefer, and Ann (DJ) Faul; and many nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law and all his hunting and fishing friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Virginia; and brother, Mark Schaefer.
The visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM at Holy Family Church, 271 Fourth Street Way, Fond du Lac. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow the visitation at 12:00 PM. Cremation will follow the service with private family interment at Shrine of Rest Mausoleum, Ledgeview Memorial Park at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family who will be creating a Memorial Fund for several charities Jim cared about most.
