Janice Ellen Davis Brewster
Janice Ellen Davis Brewster passed away at her Alfred, Maine home on Wednesday, May 24th at the age of 91, after a decline in health due to dementia.
Janice (Jan), was born May 19, 1932 in Cleveland, Ohio. Traveling due to her father's job, her childhood was spent in Ohio, Connecticut, and Indiana. She graduated from South Bend IN Central High School and attended Virginia Intermont College in Bristol, VA. It was in Shelton, CT, as a young girl that she met her beloved partner for life- Dr. John Brewster. They were married July 20, 1957, and celebrated 55 years of marriage before John's death in Jan. 2013. Upon retiring in 2008 from his chiropractic practice, they moved to Alfred, ME.
Music was always a large part of Jan's life, and some of her fondest memories were participating in choral groups and the White Hills Chorale. She enjoyed crafting and creating beautiful wooden Christmas ornaments with John and best friend, Jan Bennett. Her favorite place was Wells Beach and she loved traveling with family and friends abroad and domestically. Her favorite thing was laughing with others. She had a wicked sense of humor, loved beautiful clothes, having her hair done weekly, good food, and lunch with the girls. Animals, especially cats, were beloved family members. She was caretaker for many family members and was proud to be able to provide a loving home as the "wife of a chiropractor" and "stay at home mom". Jan always remarked how blessed she was to not only be born into a wonderful family, but to also have such a wonderful family and friends of her own. She was truly cared for by loved ones from cradle to grave. (Or from birth to death).
She is survived by her daughter Allison Brewster, son-in-law Ole Mathiesen, daughter Carol Brewster Skowronski, son-in-law Rudy Skowronski, grandchildren Jesse and Mia Skowronski all of Alfred, ME.
A celebration of Jan's life will take place on Thursday, July 13th at 12:00 p.m. at the White Hills Baptist Church in Shelton, Connecticut.
