John Bolling Creger, Jr., 78, passed away on Friday, August 25, 2023 at his home.
John was born on November 17, 1943 in Wytheville, VA to the late John Bolling Creger, Sr. and Emma Sue Brinkley Creger. He grew up in Wytheville and went on to serve his country in the United States Army.
He was employed as a truck driver for 30 years, working for McLean Trucking in various positions and eventually for Yellow Freight where he retired from. John was a member of the Teamsters 71 in Charlotte, where he served as a union steward.
John enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, spending time outside on his deck and watching racing and numerous other sports. He was a friendly person who had a nickname for everyone. Most of all, John enjoyed spending time with his family and was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother, James Creger.
Surviving family includes his loving wife of 57 years, Candace Parks Creger; three children, John B. Creger, III (Kelly), Cheryl Creger Fishel (Stephen) and Corry Creger (Courtney); grandchildren, Landon Creger, Trey Creger, Dalton Fishel (Kayla), Cameron Fishel, Nick Creger and Katelyn Creger; brothers, Joe Creger (Beth) and Jerry Creger (Judy); sister, Joy Bartinikas (John); and numerous extended family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, with Rev. Richie Neese officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
