John Alexander Gunter, Jr. age 80, a resident of Tellico Plains, Tennessee and a native of Hope Mills, North Carolina, won the battle and claimed the victory on Friday, October 31, 2025.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John Alexander, Sr. and Bessie Kate Gunter; son, John Robert Gunter; and brother, Charles Gunter.
John was admired by his family and known as a strong but sometimes stubborn man. He always took a firm stand for who and what he believed in. John built the family cabin here in the mountains of East Tennessee that he loved so dearly. He especially enjoyed his time fishing, whether it was a quiet day on a mountain stream or an ocean trip chasing the big catch. His life will be remembered and cherished by those who loved him.
He is survived by his wife, Diane Gunter; sons and daughters-in-law, Ruiyi Gunter of Clayton, NC, David and Jessica Gunter of Hope Mills NC, Thomas Gunter of Hope Mills, NC, and James and Julianne Gunter of Tellico Plains, TN; grandchildren, Alex and wife Marcia, China, Ashlynn, Jacob, Damian, Macey, Caroline, and Lauren Gunter; sister-in-law, Gail Curry and niece, Arielle Phillips. Family not by blood but by love, who were family in every sense of the word Rob and Margo White and their children Emmy and Ian White.
Private family service will be held at a later date. Myers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
