John E. Mondock Jr.

1930 - 2023

John E. Mondock Jr., 92, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away peacefully Friday, Aug. 4, 2023, at Hempfield Manor, Greensburg. John was born Sept. 16, 1930, in United, a son of the late John E Mondock Sr.and Anna Mayernick Mondock. John retired after 30 years of service from General Motors, Fisher Body Division, in West Mifflin, October 1992. He was also a bricklayer by trade. He was a very hard worker, always working extra jobs to provide for his family, and completed many masonry/concrete jobs in Mt. Pleasant and surrounding areas. John enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and especially loved polka music, dances and dancing. He attended Hurst High School and was a United States Army veteran. He was a sergeant first class in the 82nd Airborne Division in Fort Benning, Ga. While attending the Infantry School at Fort Benning, he earned his parachute and glider badge in May of 1949, completed 82nd airborne jumpster school in February 1951 and military Justice School in August 1951. He was a past member of Kosciusko, Slovak, VFW and Hecla Clubs. He was a present and lifelong member of the Polish Falcons Club in Mt. Pleasant. John was a previous member of Transfiguration Parish and Transfiguration of Our Lord Parish, who he helped build. He was currently a member of Visitation Parish in Mt. Pleasant prior to his death. He was preceded in death by his wife, Regina Marie Busko Mondock, in 1991, and brothers, Bernard and Richard Mondock, as well as numerous brothers and sisters-in-law. Prior to his death, John resided with and is survived by his daughter, Mona Miller (Joe), of Mt. Pleasant, and sons, Daun Mondock (Linda), of Mt. Pleasant, and John E. Mondock III (Chris), of Kecksburg; six grandchildren, Allison Morell (Dino), John E. Mondock IV (Kerry), Amanda Reese (Dave), Mark Mondock (Alisha), Dawn Marie Mondock and Ted Mondock (Heidi); eight great-grandchildren, Nicholas Morell, Lisa and Rachel Mondock, Cody and Morgan Reese and Zeke, Zoey and Zara Mondock. John is also survived by a brother, Ronald Mondock(Carol); a sister, Evelyn DePalma; sisters-in law, Peg Mondock and Ruth Mondock; ex-son-in law, Tom Miller; and numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 406 E. Washington St., Mt. Pleasant, where a blessing service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in the Visitation Roman Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Transfiguration Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Mt. Pleasant American Legion Honor Guard. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Sheila Ohr, who was his Excela Home Health nurse aide at home, and whom he adored and the staff at Hempfield Manor and Bridges Hospice for his outstanding care during his short stay there. John was a kind and loving father who will be missed greatly by his family and friends.
