John Richard "Buddy" Newsome Sr., age 94, of Star, passed away on May 19, 2023, at his home.
Buddy was born on January 20, 1929, in Richmond County to Benjamin and Eliza Robbins Newsome. He was a US Army veteran and a member of VFW Post 9881. He was a member of Cornerstone Baptist church and enjoyed reading, fishing, bee keeping and gardening.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Hayden Newsome and son, Steven Wayne Newsome.
He is survived by his son, John Newsome Jr. of Dallas, NC; sister, Ellen Brown of Newton, NC; grandchildren, Brandon Newsome, Michelle Newsome, Paige Newsome, Jesse Newsome; and daughter-in-law, Sandy Newsome and thirteen great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at Biscoe Cemetery at 11:00 am with Rev. Mike Greene officiating and military honors by Randolph Honor Guard. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:30 am at Phillips Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the charity of one's choice.
