Johnathin Edward "Ed" West, a longtime resident of Niceville, Florida, died peacefully at home on April 12th, 2025. Ed was born in Hortense Georgia on February 5, 1933 but grew up in Waycross Georgia where he met his high school sweetheart, Gail. They were married for 69 years and still held hands on the couch up until the day she passed. Ed was a gifted track and baseball pitcher in high school. He won third place in the state high jump and was recruited to pitch professionally before he and his buddies joined the U.S. Air Force. He retired from the USAF where he served in the Korean and Vietnam wars. After retirement, he became a building contractor after building his own home with only Votech classes for experience. Ed loved joking around and will be remembered for his crazy antics and sense of humor. He also enjoyed watching the Braves and any kind of Georgia football. More locally he bragged that his 50 yard line season tickets were the best seats in the stadium to watch the Niceville Eagles football team for many years. He was proceeded in death by his wife, Gail, his son-in-law, Greg Hubbard and numerous family members. He is survived by his children, Gary West and Beth Hubbard, his granddaughter, Rachel Hubbard, and numerous family members and caring neighbors, and friends.
The family will hold a private graveside service at Heritage Garden Cemetery in Niceville
