Johnny Claude Carpenter, age 90, passed away in his home on Tuesday, September 12, 2023.
He celebrated his 90th birthday on August 28 with his family and friends. Claude was born on August 28, 1933 and raised on Cloud's Creek, Hawkins County, TN. During his life he proudly served in the US Army. Afterward, he lived in Morristown working at JC Penney, Walmart, Ingles and owned a small cleaning business while raising their 4 children with his late wife, Phyllis Sullivan. He taught them to love the Lord and their families as he modeled to them. During his latter years, he could be found walking to the front porch, sitting in his favorite spot enjoying the outdoors and always reading the newspaper.
Those who preceded him in death and welcomed him to his eternal reward are his parents, JC and Maggie Carpenter; his wife, Phyllis (Sullivan) Carpenter; sisters, Christine Young and Juanita Helton and her husband; brother, Kyle Carpenter; and nephew, Vincent Carpenter.
His family left behind to cherish his memories are his children; Susan Carpenter, Robert (Elisa) Carpenter, Kim (Joe) Gilbert and Wendy Carpenter; grandchildren, Amanda and Rebecca McClain, Allen Carpenter, Rachel (David) Harris, Jarred (Kristy) Carpenter, Kayla (Ira) Ginn, Katie (Ryan) Lietzke, and Chasity (Logan) Breeden; 10 great-grandchildren; other survivors include his brother, David Ray (Angelia) Carpenter; sister, Linda (Sheldon) Livesay; sister-in-law, Wanda Carpenter; several nieces and nephews, and his wife's family, the Sullivans.
The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 P.M. on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at Lakemoore Church of God in Morristown. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 P.M. with Rev. Kenny Cole and Sheldon Livesay officiating.
