Katina Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Legacy Funeral Center - Scott Chapel on May 20, 2022.
SMITH, Katina Louise, age 72 Of Jeffersonville, IN passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 19th, 2022, at Hosparus Health of Norton's, with her son Maurice by her side. Katina was born in Jeffersonville on February 9th, 1950, the daughter of Noble and Clara (nee: Dyson) Smith. After graduating from Jeffersonville High School, she earned her bachelor's degree at Indiana University. Katina was an employment counselor for the State of Indiana for much of her career, assisting countless of others to attain employment and success until she retired in 2015. She also worked for several years at the US Census Bureau.
Katina enjoyed several interests and hobbies throughout her life. The most important of them was her relationship with God and her lifelong commitment to Bethel AME Church in Jeffersonville, IN. She joined the church as a very young age, and was a proud participant in many groups, including the choir and held several official positions in the church. At the time of her death, she was the Head Stewardess at Bethel. Katina was always ready to help with any project, including one of the church's infamous fundraisers, the annual Fashion Show at the Derby Dinner Playhouse. She welcomed everyone into Bethel, and so many stories of her kindness have been shared with her family over the past few weeks. She also enjoyed playing Bunco regularly with a close group of friends. Stories will be told for years of the funny antics that occurred and the host's prizes were always hugely anticipated. In her younger years, she was also an avid bowler with several different leagues. To this day, Maurice has fond memories of tagging along with her throughout the years to Youngstown Lanes. Katina was known by everyone for her love of two things. The first was her natural green thumb, which was evident by the array of beautiful flowers and plants, both inside and outside her house. And though, it probably doesn't even need to be written, but her favorite color was purple, from her choice of clothing to even her Christmas decorations. Above all though, Katina was a proud daughter, mother and sister, and she loved her grandchildren with all her heart.
Katina was preceded in death by her Father, Noble Cril Smith; brothers Charles Noble Smith, Gary Leroy Smith; and nephew Gary Smith, Jr. She leaves behind her mother, Clara Etta Smith; Son, Maurice (Shauna) Smith; brother, Ronald (Donna) Smith; sister, Yolonda (Price) Leavell; sister-in-law, Norma Jean Smith; grandchildren, Jaxon, Carter, and Avery Smith; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and other beloved family and friends.
The family will receive loved ones at Legacy Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 24th, 5:00 – 8:00 and Wednesday, May 25th, 11:00 – 1:00, with a memorial service beginning at 1:00.

Remembering Katina as a true servant of Christ.

From childhood she began preparing to serve Christ in not only one area of Christian church offices and works but in every way when led. From worship with the Allen Stars Children's Choir to extending the love of God through community outreach and service in her employment.

She will be missed by family, friends and those whose loves she touched coming and going but we know she is now Heaven's gain and resting with the Lord and family who went before her.

Rest well, Cousin.
