Lawrence William Romero, 65, passed away on November 14, 2021 with his wife and children at his bedside. He was born in Trinidad, CO on 8/10/56 to Jose George and Elsie(Maestas) Romero.
Lawrence was known as Wedo to his family, and was primarily raised by his father and older sisters in an extended family. Many of his nieces and nephews consider him like a brother. He never hesitated to offer support and help whenever his family needed him. When he was 19, he joined the US Marines and served for 4 years, including over a year in Okinawa, Japan. Over the years, he encouraged others to join the military; he was very proud to have been a Marine and his service to our country. After the Marines, he worked at the Denver Mountain Bell building and eventually became a certified nursing assistant at a Nursing home near Littleton, CO, where he participated in a pilot program that developed the Restorative Nursing concept in Colorado. He moved to Rocky Ford where his mother and several family members resided. Lawrence worked at the Pryor Jean Factory then took a job at Pioneer Nursing Home, which was part of the Restorative pilot program and he was able to continue working as a Restorative CNA. It was there that he met his wife, PeggySue, and they were married in 1992. They raised her two sons Nathaniel and Daniel Salazar, and were blessed with 2 girls, Rebekah and Leah. Lawrence was very involved in his children's lives, often taking off a year or 2 to be able to keep them at home and not need daycare. He enjoyed helping as a volunteer at Jane's world when the girls were older. After he became a grandpa, his pride and joy was spending time with his grandchildren and was very involved in babysitting every chance he could.
Lawrence enjoyed watching sports events including football, basketball, baseball, hockey, and WWE. His favorites were the Broncos and WWE. He was a quiet man, but liked to joke and tease others. He had a nickname for his kids, their friends, and his grandkids. Lawrence unselfishly welcomed 6 young people into the family home over the years for several months at a time. He was the instrument mover and chef for his son's bands; the chauffeur and behind the scenes coach for his daughters; a dance partner and coloring helper for his grandkids; and a supportive and caring husband. His faith was strong and he read his Marine bible every night. Lawrence will be missed dearly by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, PeggySue; children Nathaniel Salazar, Daniel(Tenchita) Salazar with Elijah, Ivie, Nevaeh; Rebekah Romero and Avah; and Leah(Eric) Guerrero with Carley, Devin, Tony, and Ashton. Brothers, Leonard Romero, Rocky Ford; George Romero, KS; Frank(Linda) Romero, and Eddie(Vickie) Romero of Denver.
