Margarita Sanchez de Medina, 71 years of age, passed on Sunday, May 28th, 2023, after a long battle with ALS. She was at her home surrounded by her kids and oldest grandchildren.
Margarita was born on January 2, 1952, in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico. She was raised by her mother Maria Dado, aunt Dolores Sanchez Dado and uncle Alejandro Sanchez. She was one of eight children and was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Sabino, Miguel, Consuelo and Humberto.
Margarita lived in Mexicali with her family until she moved with her then boyfriend Manuel to the Mission District in San Francisco, California when she was just seventeen years old. Margarita married Manuel Medina in 1972 and four children were born from this union. She was a stay-at-home mom until shortly after her youngest daughter was born.
Margarita worked at a variety of hotels and laundry services throughout San Francisco until her retirement. She was a hardworking woman and always excelled in the tasks she was given at work.
During her free time, she enjoyed listening to music at full blast and singing along to her favorite songs. It did not matter how early it was. She loved shopping - especially going to "la Ross," and she loved any excuse to spend time with her kids and grandchildren. Weekends were often filled with trips to the stores followed by enjoying a meal outside with her family. She enjoyed watching her novelas, and introduced that joy to her youngest daughter - often enjoying them together. Margarita was an excellent cook and loved keeping her family well fed. She taught her children and grandchildren how to make traditional Mexican dishes like tamales and pozole but she also taught herself how to make semi-traditional American dishes for Thanksgiving dinner so her family could partake in the traditions of the country she chose to make her home over the last 50 plus years.
Margarita is survived by her children, Manuel, Veronica, Francisco, and Cristina. Her grandchildren, Sergio, Monica, and Daisy as well as her three nephews which she considered an extension of her children, Guillermo, Marcos, and Ernesto and their children. She is also survived by her siblings, Nena, Rosa and Ernesto and her countless nieces and nephews.
Her family grieves her loss, but they take comfort knowing that Margarita and Manual are together again.
