Obituary of Mary Margaret Fisher
Born February 12, 1929 - Died July 19, 2023
Mary Margaret Fisher, a long-time resident of Junction City died on Wednesday, July 19, at the age of 94. Born February 2, 1929 to Benjamin Leo Freeman and Mary Josephine (Fugle) Freeman. She died July 19, 2023, at the age of 94. She grew up on the Freeman Family Farm in between Monroe and Harrisburg. She attended grades 1-8 at the Noraton School on Noraton Road, in a one room schoolhouse. She then attended Harrisburg High School, graduating in 1948. After high school, she completed her training in Cosmetology and worked in Corvallis, Harrisburg, and Junction City.
In February 1962, she married Donald William Fisher at St Helen's Catholic Church. They celebrated 60 years together until his death in 2022. She is survived by a son, Ben Fisher, who resides in Junction City, Oregon. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews on the Fisher and Freeman sides of the family.
She was a farm wife and partner in Strome-Fisher Farm and was active in its operations until the end of her life. She enjoyed gardening, canning (winning ribbons at the county fair), and other crafts. She was proud of the hours that she spent tending to her different flowers and plants in her yard. She enjoyed cooking and baking and was known for her cinnamon rolls, Danish pastries, and always had an assortment of homemade cookies for family and friends who dropped by for a visit.
She was a member of St. Helen's Catholic Church in Junction City, and was active in the church for over 42 years. A member of the Oregon Genealogical Society (Eugene Chapter), and volunteered in the Eugene Genealogy Research Library. She was also a past member of the Women for Agriculture.
She was proceeded in death by her husband Donald William Fisher. She was also proceeded in death by her two sisters Lucille (Freeman) Wobbe and Mabel (Freeman) Howard and two brothers Leonard Freeman and Paul Freeman.
She would be the first to tell you that her life was full and she enjoyed putting together family history of the Freeman, Fugle, Michels and Fishers. Over the years she enjoyed many trips and travels. One trip that meant so much to her was to be able to travel to Minnesota to see the flour mill that her great grandfather built in 1868. The building is still standing with the working parts still there and is now a museum.
A memorial mass/service will be held on Friday, August 4th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Helen's Catholic Church in Junction City, Oregon. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Harrisburg Dollars for Scholars, the Oregon Genealogical Society (Eugene Chapter), or the Junction City Fire Department.
