Mary Sanford Grant, 78, of Lisbon, Connecticut passed away peacefully on October 18, 2022 at the Douglas Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Home in Windham, Connecticut. Mary was born in San Diego, California, to Dorothy and Henry Sanford, and moved to Taftville, Connecticut at an early age. After graduating in 1962 from Norwich Free Academy, Mary went on to pursue a nursing degree as an RN at the Rhode Island Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1965. She married her "mate for life", Robert Grant, husband of 57 years, who survives her. Together they raised two children, Paul Grant, Marie Grant, and also raised their loving grandson Michael Grant. Marys' love of nursing included positions in the Summit nursing home, The Norwich State Hospital, Griswold Public Health and was a school nurse at Saint Mary School until it's closing, then school nurse at the Griswold Elementary School. As years flew by, so did her career path, leaving nursing and putting her energy into being the Lisbon Republican Registrar of Voters, a position she held for over 38 years, until her death. She was a member of the Lisbon Fire Departments ladies auxiliary, and a member of the Lisbon Commission on aging for 35 years. Mary was a faithful and humble servant of the Lord, a lifelong member of the Taftville Congregational Church and was active in many committees in the church. She was the treasurer of the Board of Governance Church council, member of the choir, on the memorial committee and in a ladies group at the church. When I asked to describe Mary, "her quiet, kind, warm hearted spirit comes to the forefront. She will be missed - a beautiful soul". A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at 10 AM at Ames Cemetery in Lisbon with a collation to follow at the Taftville Congregational Church in Taftville, Connecticut. Donations in Marys name should be to the charity of your choice.
