Gilman Girardin Obituary

Publish in a newspaper

Gilman R. Girardin, 81, of Norwich, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2025. Gilman was born in Lewiston, Maine, to Sylvio and Laura Girardin on June 5, 1944.
Gilman shared nearly six decades of marriage with his beloved wife, Agnes Girardin. Their 59-year union was a testament to enduring love and partnership. Together, they raised two sons: Tom and David.
He worked as a machinist for 33 years before retiring from General Dynamics/Electric Boat. His strong work ethic and commitment to excellence were evident throughout his long tenure.
Known affectionately as Gil, he was outgoing and never missed an opportunity to strike up a conversation. His warmth and humor made him a favorite at family gatherings and community events alike. Gil had a special love for music and dancing-he was often the first one on the dance floor at weddings and celebrations. Even during the party celebrating their 50th anniversary, he could be found dancing with joy and energy. Music was more than just a pastime for Gil-it was a way of connecting with others. Whether tapping out rhythms on his spoons or playing the washboard at family get-togethers, he brought laughter and rhythm wherever he went. Summers found Gil outside tending to his yard with great care. He took immense pride in maintaining a beautiful lawn and enjoyed spending time outdoors. One of his favorite pastimes was going for drives with no set destination-just enjoying the journey and discovering where the road would lead.
Gil is survived by his wife, Agnes (LeSage) Girardin and his two children, Tom Girardin and his wife, Pam of Canterbury; and David Girardin and his wife, Suzanne of Franklin. He was also a proud grandfather to Hunter Girardin and great-grandfather to Jackson Girardin, both from Reading, PA.
Gil is also remembered fondly by his siblings: Gemma Biske and husband Robert of Bolton; Ron Girardin and wife Cheryl of Coventry; Richard Girardin and wife Denise of New Britain; and Gerald Girardin and wife Ginette of Pensacola, FL. As well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sylvio and Laura Girardin; his sisters Rae Jacobs, Lucienne Gamage, and Lucille Girardin; and his brother Bob Girardin.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Estelle Leandri and Lucille Gernhard, his sisters-in-law, as well as to Richard LaPorte and Jane Bonaventura for their invaluable help and support over the past few years. The family truly appreciates everything they have done.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, October 24, 2025 at St Joseph Church, 11 Baltic Road, Norwich CT. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gilman Girardin's name to the Prostate Cancer Foundation.
