Mary S. Neyenhouse

Mary S. Neyenhouse, 101, passed away peacefully at Meadowbrook Healthcare on Friday, December 23, 2022. Mary was born at home on August 5,1921, in Peru NY, the daughter of John and Sarah (Cronin) Sullivan. She was predeceased by her husband John Sr, two of her sons, John Jr and Richard, her parents, her brothers, and sister-in-laws: Michael (Barbara) Sullivan, Francis (Virginia) Sullivan, William (Betty) Sullivan, John (Grace) Sullivan, Charles Sullivan, her two sisters, Margaret Buckley (Edgar) and Rita Sullivan. She is also predeceased by her son-in-law Tom Maher.
Mary is survived by her children: Sheila (Wayne) Dumont, Mary (Eric) Jackstadt, Peter (Tonya) Neyenhouse, Jim (Diane) Neyenhouse, Charlie (Penny) Neyenhouse, Rita (Paul) Fessette, Sarah (Larry) Cromie, Theresa Maher, Carol Neyenhouse, Susan (Tom) Higgins, Ann (Scott Edelstein) Neyenhouse, her daughter-in-law Mary L. Neyenhouse and her sister-in-law Evelyn Sullivan. She is also survived by her 29 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren.
Mary graduated from Keeseville High School then went to college at Cornell University and transferred to Plattsburgh State University where she completed her bachelor's degree. She married her husband, John, on August 29,1944 and together they started their family in Peru where they lived the adage "family first". They were happily married for 66 years. She cherished her marriage and her family. Visits from children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were special to her.
From 1967 to 1980, Mary worked as a case worker for Clinton County Social Services.
Mary was open-minded, positive and practical. She was a progressive thinker who also cared very much about the environment and preservation of the earth.
The family would like to extend their gratitude and appreciation to the staff at Meadowbrook Healthcare for the care and love they showed her.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the CVPH Foundation or the charity of one's choice.
Arrangements are in the care of Brown Funeral Home and will be private and at the convenience of the family.
