Matthew Potter was born on January 21, 1939, in Vernon, Florida, to the Reverend Jesse and Louciel Potter, who instilled in him values of compassion, faith, and love. His life was a testament to these principles as he dedicated himself to his family, his work, and his community.
Matthew completed his education at T.J. Roulhac High School. After graduation, he served in the army reserves before began his career with the US Postal Service, where he served diligently for many years. He retired at the age of 65.
Matthew was a man of unwavering faith, and attended Trinity Temple C.O.G.I.C. under the guidance of Reverend Charles H. Brewer, Sr.
On September 2, 1961, Matthew married the love of his life, Jacqueline Taylor. They had three children, and were married for more than six decades before her passing. Their bond was a testament to the power of love and commitment, inspiring those around them to cherish the blessings of partnership.
Matthew cherished his role as a father and took joy in watching his children grow into remarkable individuals. They remember him as a loving, supportive, and compassionate father who taught them the importance of family, laughter, and perseverance.
He had a quiet demeanor, quick wit, and charismatic presence. His infectious laughter and unforgettable jokes brought joy to those around him, lighting up any room he entered. Matthew had a generous heart; his kindness and compassion touched the lives of many, and his legacy will continue to inspire acts of goodness and love.
Matthew had a passion for fishing and often shared this pastime with his family. He also enjoyed watching court television shows, finding intrigue and fascination in the unfolding dramas.
Matthew was predeceased by his parents and three sisters (Thelma, Helen, and Loray).
He leaves to mourn his three loving sons: Darrick (Sonia) of Hartford, CT; Kyle (Celeste) of Seymour, CT: Von (Rachel) of Hamden, CT; five grandchildren: Darrick Jr., Joseph, Jada, Raven, and Laila; a host of nieces and nephews; and a sister, Clydie (Leon) of Philadelphia, PA, and a brother, Clarence (Elouise) of Vernon, FL, who share a deep and unbreakable bond of siblinghood.
He also shared special memories with a host of friends including Delores Browning, Alonzo & Mary Bert, and Frances Stancil.
Though his physical presence may no longer be with us, Matthew's legacy lives on through the memories we hold dear. May we find solace in knowing that his legacy will continue to live on in our hearts. His impact on our lives will forever be treasured.
