Melvin Hanson, 74 of rural Battle Lake died Thursday, October 19, 2023, at the Battle Lake Good Samaritan Center.
Melvin Clarence Hanson was born on January 27, 1949, in Perham, Minnesota the son of Clarence and Eva (Haagenstad) Hanson. He was baptized and confirmed in Trinity Lutheran Church in Battle Lake. Melvin attended Rural School District #174, and then to the Battle Lake high School graduating in 1969.
He was employed with the City of Battle Lake, Glendalough Game Farm, Carr’s Tree Service and then retired from Jennie-O Turkey. Melvin liked visiting and helping people. He enjoyed fishing, his cats, baby sitting family dogs, and the outdoors along with watching wildlife from his home. He was a member of First Lutheran Church and was part of the men’s club and Bible study.
He is survived by his sister, Carole (Joseph) Bistrum of Bellbrook, Ohio; brother, David (Mary) Hanson of Ottertail; sister-in-law, Tudy Hanson of Battle Lake; nine nieces and nephews and families, Becky Henry, Nicholas and J.P., Kellie (Scott) Secrest, Matthew, Haley and Bently, Keith (Connie) Kimber and Gunnar, Dondi (Sheree) Kimber, Timothy Hanson and Page (Blake) and Bowen, Shawn (Sarah) Hanson, Haley and Emily, Tracy (Chad) Hines, Hunter, Evelyn and Fletcher, Megan Tamke, and Tad Tamke and Henry; and by numerous relatives and friends. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Eva Hanson; brother, Lewis Hanson; sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Lester Kimber; niece, Bobbi Tamke; and nephew, Jesse Hanson.
Funeral Service: 10:00 AM, Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at First Lutheran Church in Battle Lake with visitation one hour prior to the service.
Clergy: Rev. Lynn Melchoir
Interment: Skiptvedt Cemetery, rural Battle Lake.
