Michael A. Weston, also known as Papaw Mike to many of his Facebook friends, passed away after a brief battle with cancer on June 13, 2023, surrounded by his family. Mike was 72 years old.
It has been said that life is all about the dash between the two dates. If you have the privilege of being part of Mike's dash you know it was an amazing life. Mike loved with his whole heart, was loyal to the core and tenacious on his beliefs, and worked hard his whole life. All traits that he has passed on to his children and grandchildren.
Mike was an avid gardener and well known for his tomato juice and salsa. His family and friends could always count on leaving his house with "a little something" from the garden.
Mike was raised in Liberty, Indiana by his parents Paul "Doc" and Annabelle Adams Irrgang.
He married the love of his life, Regina Lathery, who survives him. They were able to celebrate 53 years of marriage together.
After High School Mike was sent to Vietnam where he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Overseas Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Combat Infantryman Badge. After his honorable discharge from the Army, Mike returned to Indiana where he and his wife raised three children.
Mike is survived by his wife, Regina Weston; his children, Angie Weston-Roman and Patrick Stevens, Amanda and Chance Jacobs, and Mike and Elisa Weston; his grandchildren, his first round of favorites, Zach Moore, Ron Jacobs, Kyley (Hunter) Miller, Gabe Turner, Gavin Pennington, Zach Weston (Samantha Ramey), Braden Weston, Jacob Pennington (Hayley Moore), Tynan Roman, Kamdyn Stevens, Trinity Roman and Colten Stevens. Also, and possibly his ultimate favorites, his great grandchildren, Adalynn Jacobs, Maverick and Marlowe Miller.
Also surviving Mike are his siblings, Marilyn Hobbs, Diana and Richard Freeman, Larry and Michelle Irrgang; as well as nieces, nephews, and an abundant amount of family friends.
Mike's final request is that you come out to celebrate his life, share stories about him with his family, and maybe have a beer or two in his honor. A celebration of life will be held at the Simon E. Snyder American Legion Post 122 in Liberty, Indiana on Friday June 23 from 5:00-8:00 p.m.
