Ming Chan Obituary
MING Q. CHAN, age 84. Beloved husband of Victoria. Loving father of Herbert Chan (Tiana), and Felicia Hom (David). Cherished grandfather of William Chan, Alan Chan (Amy), Emily Hom, and Jackson Hom. Adored great grandfather of Alexander and Ally Chan. Dear brother of Michael Chan, and the late May Yung (Jerry). Dearest uncle of Ken Yung (Maribel). Fond great uncle of Kyla, Keith, and Krista.
Ming was an Analytical Chemist at General Electric. He was a subject matter expert on Tungsten, the main element found in light bulb filaments. He conducted Tungsten ore research for the Incandescent Light Bulb filament industry. At GE, he met his life-long friend and mentor Joe. For over 50 years, Ming and Joe remained friends. He was an avid passionate horseracing fan, Ming and his wife, Victoria waged at racetracks throughout the United States and China. Although he was a passionate horse racing fan, he would often times concede that Victoria was a natural and won more than him.
Ming loved to travel, go fishing with his family and enjoy a McDonald's Cheeseburger. Ming also loved the stock market. He was a graduate of West High School in Cleveland. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Kent State University. Ming also completed a master's degree in chemistry from Case Western Reserve University. In 1970, Ming successfully sponsored four branches of his family to the United States. Today, members of these families have run businesses, served in the US Military and work in many industry sectors.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 5th, 2024, at 1:30 PM in the funeral home. Interment West Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11 AM - 1:30 PM at the A. RIPEPI & SONS FUNERAL HOME, 18149 BAGLEY ROAD, MIDDLEBURG HEIGHTS (WEST OF I-71).
