Ken Sliger, of Pensacola, Florida, passed away on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, in his home. He was born to John Sliger and Matti Hudlow in Chattanooga, Tennessee. His childhood home was the birthplace for all 5 of their children. He was the youngest in the family and loved teasing and pulling pranks on his siblings. Upon graduating high school in 1943, he served 26 months in the Navy as a Bugler, using his musical gifts for ceremonial purposes, such as playing Reveille in the morning and Taps for fallen comrades.
When WW2 ended, Ken attended Bob Jones University. There he met the love of his life and wife of 67 years, Louise Smith. Using his passion for reaching the world for Christ and his love for people, the Lord led him into full time Christian ministry. While attending college he was asked to become Assistant Pastor and Minister of Music at Enderly Park Baptist Church in Charlotte, North Carolina. He served there for a year before returning to Bob Jones to finish school. Soon after, he was offered the position of the Assistant Pastor and Minister of Music at Central Baptist Church in Gainesville, Georgia.
A year later, God led Ken to Pensacola, Florida, to become Pastor of Southside Baptist Church for four years. From there, he located property on 9th Avenue and started a building program for Granada Baptist Church where he served as Pastor for 22 years. Next, the Lord led Ken to start another church which became Pine Forest Estates Baptist Church (NorthStone Baptist Church) on Nine Mile Road. He finally retired in 2006 at the age of 80. He served Pensacola as a pastor for 55 years. In retirement, Ken was a loyal member of Smyrna Baptist Church where he played his trumpet and loved to teach whenever anyone asked.
Ken Sliger was preceded to heaven by his wife, Grace Louise Smith, and his son Kenneth Sliger.
He is survived by his daughters, Anne Sliger, Donna Miller, her husband Greg; son Jay, daughter-in-law, Simran; great-grandson George, and Rene Jones and her son, Ryan.
Your life was a blessing, your memory is a treasure.
Services will be held on Thursday, October 19, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. (visitation at 10:00 a.m.) at Smyrna Baptist Church (7000 Pensacola Blvd Pensacola, Fl 32506).

My condolences to the family of my longtime friend and brother in Christ, Myron Ken Sliger. After his "retirement" from pastoring, he joined us at Smyrna
Baptist and was a real blessing. I could count on him to teach my Sunday school class if I were gone; he played the trumpet in the church orchestra; went on
Saturday church visitation; and I could always ask him to preach at the Pensacola rescue mission: all of these when he was well over 90 years old. And he never tired al telling people that he had received Jesus Christ as his Savior when he was 9 years old. He was a genuine blessing to be around and will be missed by many of us.

I would see him most Sundays at Cracker Barrel, He was always whistling. He was always nicely dressed. He was very pleasant and always had a smile on his face.
