Dr. Frank A. Buchanan

Dr. Frank A. Buchanan of Pensacola, Florida peacefully passed away Monday, October 20, 2025, at the age of 94. Dr. Buchanan was born in Robertsdale, Alabama on January 21, 1931. Growing up in Pensacola, he became a newspaper carrier at age 8, maintaining this job through the completion of high school studies. Graduating from Pensacola High School in 1949, he continued his education at Florida State University and Emory University School of Dentistry, Atlanta, Georgia. Fulfilling his life-long dream to become a dentist, he received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1957 and returned to his hometown to establish practice, practicing dentistry 50 years. He was a beloved and well-respected dentist by his patients and colleagues alike. He took joy in participating in numerous dental mission trips through the years to provide dental treatment for those in need.
Dr. Buchanan was a life-long member of Gateway Church of Christ where he served for many years as a deacon and, in later years, an elder. He was a member of the Esca-Rosa Dental Association, the Florida Dental Association, and the Florida Academy of Dental Practice Administration. He served on many boards and committees throughout his career including chairing the Board of Directors of Escambia Christian School during its founding. Dr. Buchanan was an avid woodworker who also enjoyed the hobbies of hunting and fishing.
Dr. Buchanan is survived by his wife of 71 years, Myrtle; three children, Karen Bailey, Gary Buchanan, and Bryan (Amparo) Buchanan; two grandchildren, Audrey and Samuel. He is proceeded in death by his parents, Raymond and Frances Buchanan, son-in-law, David E. Bailey, Jr.; and daughter-in-law, Nivia Juan Buchanan.
A celebration of his life will be held at 12noon on Friday, October 24, 2025, at Waters & Hibbert Funeral Home with minister Frank Thomann officiating. Burial will follow at Bayview Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends beginning at 11am prior to the service at Waters & Hibbert Funeral Home, 123 West Gregory Street, Pensacola, Florida. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Escambia Christian School, 3311 Moreno Street, Pensacola, Florida, 32505.
