William Arley Johnson, 84, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2025, surrounded by his loving family in Pensacola, FL.
He was born to June Wilton Johnson and Idell Dempsey Johnson on February 23, 1941, in Selma, AL. After graduating from Pensacola High School in 1959, he worked at Monsanto for 13 years and then worked at The United States Postal Service for 36 years and retired as a Post Master.
William married his best friend and high school sweetheart, Sandra Barberi, on November 18, 1961. They were married for 64 years. He is survived by their daughter, Jennifer Johnson Ponson (Randy Ponson); his granddaughter, Whitney Ponson Bellaloum (Jeremy Bellaloum); his great granddaughter, Alice Helene Bellaloum; and their dog, Buddy.
He is also survived by his sister in law, Sheila Barberi Crenshaw; his nieces Robyn, Eryn, Shannyn, and Cheree and nephews; Sterling, Sheldon, Mike, and Pug along with his bonus daughter, Theresa Hoang. Preceded in death by his parents, brother Ray; and sisters Ruby, Ruth, and Reba.
He took great pleasure in keeping a beautiful yard and flower garden. He loved fishing, playing pool, and was an avid golfer; he had four hole in one's and won second place in The Pensacola Open. He was very generous with his time and shared his expertise, organization and leadership with student organizations at Pensacola State College. His generosity and unwavering kindness inspired the naming of a HOSA award as the William and Sandra Johnson Exemplary Service Award. He also received the SkillsUSA Champions Award. His kindness and generosity never faltered.
He had a contagious laugh and a smile for everyone. He carried a positive attitude and will be greatly missed by all.
Memorial service for William will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at Waters and Hibbert Funeral Home, located on 124 W Gregory St. Pensacola, FL 32502. Visitation begins at 2:00pm and service to follow at 3:00pm.
He lived with grace, loved deeply, and left behind a legacy of kindness.
