Ricky "Rick" L. Burns, 59, of Columbus, passed away May 19, 2023 unexpectedly at his home.
Rick was born April 13, 1964, in Columbus, Indiana, the son of Jerry and Alice Calhoun Burns. On July 10, 1997, he married Stacy C. Johnson.
Mr. Burns worked in the industrial sector for numerous companies in the Columbus area. He loved fishing and gardening. Rick enjoyed the outdoors, so hunting, naturally, became another favorite pastime activity of his. Attending the dirt, late model races was an event that he liked going to. He looked forward to the yearly trip to Eldora, Ohio to witness the races in person. Rick was also a very good cook. Whether it was grilling outside or cooking inside, his dishes were sure to please, however, cooking chili was one the most anticipated creations. Additionally, the meatloaf dish he prepared seemed to turn out perfect every time. When Rick had spare time, he would go to various flee markets to see what he could find. He will be deeply missed by those that knew him.
Survivors include his wife, Stacy; sons, Lynn Burns, Dallas Johnson; sister, Rhonda (Doug Turner) Burns-Robinson; mother, Alice Burns, all of Columbus, along with numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry; grandparents, Howard and Vora Calhoun; brother, Randall Burns; nieces, Brandy Douglass and Mikalia Robinson.
The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Larry Calhoun officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Burial will take place at Shiloh Separate Baptist Church Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bartholomew County Humane Society.
