Robert W. "Danny" Danielson, Sr., M.D., passed away peacefully at the Terraces in Los Gatos, on 11/26/11, surrounded by his family.
Danny was born April 20, 1921, in San Jose, CA. He grew up on a fruit ranch in Cupertino and was encouraged from an early age, by his teachers, to study medicine. He attended Cupertino Elementary School, Fremont High School, San Jose State College, and Stanford University School of Medicine. Discharged from the US Navy in 1949, Danny married his wife of 62 years, Irene Clement, a US Navy Flight Nurse. They lived and built a busy Family Practice in Coronado, while raising two sons, and returned to the SF Bay Area in 1957, where Danny pursued an OB-GYN Residency program at Stanford.
Immersed in his love of medicine, Danny began his thriving Los Altos OB-GYN practice in 1960. He simultaneously enjoyed teaching on Stanford's Clinical Faculty, participating as an ACOG Fellow and member of the Peninsula OB-GYN Society, as well as helping to establish the OB-GYN Dept at El Camino Hospital. Having delivered thousands of babies, spanning several generations, Danny was well known as "a doctor's doctor." At home, Danny enjoyed singing and playing guitar, family time, socializing with friends, bonsai and general gardening, as well as all manner of sports.
Danny was a dedicated physician, steadfast husband, loyal friend, and loving father. Known by many, and loved by those whose lives he touched, he will be immeasurably missed, and ever remembered by his wife, Irene, son, Robert Jr., and daughter-in-law, Jacqueline, along with colleagues, friends, and patients. Danny's second son, John, died in 2003.
A celebration of his life will be held on January 7, 2012, 2pm, at the Crown Plaza Hotel, Mediterranean Room, 4290 El Camino Real, Palo Alto. Donations to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation are preferred: 1359 Broadway, Suite 150, New York, NY 10018.
