Robert was born August 7th, 1978 in Garden City Kansas.
He is preceded in death by his Grandparents James Leroy Austin of Garden City Ks. & Stella Largent Austin Jenkins of Jacksonville, FL; his father Norris LaVerne Drake of Greeley, CO and his younger brother James Justin Drake of Greeley, CO.
He is survived by his mother, Marla Ann Austin of Turpin, OK, and his son, Wyatt Nathaniel Drake of Edmond, OK.
When Robert was a toddler the family moved to Greeley CO, and then to the Colorado Springs area where he lived on a horse ranch and became a Cub Scout in the Boy Scouts. In the summer between 3rd and 4th grades the family moved back to Kansas.
Robert graduated from Flint Hills Job Corps in the mid 1990's focusing his studies on carpentry. After graduation, he moved to Norman, OK where he began his life-long career in building construction as a framer, primarily in home construction. He also learned many other jobs in the construction field including laying cement, drywall, tile work, roofing, and siding as well as a bit of plumbing.
His favorite thing to do was to spend time with his son, Wyatt, teaching him and also doing fun things together, especially if it was outdoors. Robert was a rock hound and was also beginning to pass this interest on to his son. He had recently taught Wyatt how to fish. He never lost his childhood love of climbing trees, the taller the better. He eventually turned this love into a side business when he wasn't working in the construction industry.
Other activities of interest were spending time with his friends and doing just about anything outdoors.
Robert had always wanted to have children but that didn't happen for him until later in life, when he was 37 years old. He was there for the birth of his son, Wyatt. After Wyatt was born, Robert came rushing out into the waiting area, straight into the arms of his Mother, where between tears of joy, he kept saying "I get it now, Mama; I get it. I understand now."
(He will be missed by many others beside his family including his former step-father Leslie Raymond Carlson of Golden CO, his son's mother Jodie Perez, her son Steven, who he considered as his own son, and his girlfriend Chelsey Peaster, all of Edmond, CO.)
Robert was happiest in the mountains and always talked about much he wanted to return there. His family will set his remains free in the Spring in his beloved Rocky Mountains when all of Earth's life is renewing and everything is beautiful and fresh.
