Stanley Kahn, age 71, of Brewster, NY, passed away on November 24, 2021. He was born on January 12, 1950 in New York City to Bernie and Gertrude (Mendel) Kahn. Stan Graduated from Brewster High School in 1968 where he played baseball, basketball and soccer. He was the only soccer goalie for the first two years. He graduated from Franklin Pierce College in Ridge, NH with a BA in secondary education in 1972.
On July 6, 1975, Stan married the love of his life, Teddie Rose at Temple Beth Elohim in Brewster, NY.
Stan first worked in the family business of auto and truck repair and GMC dealership. He later was a teacher assistant at Green Chimneys School in Brewster, NY for 25 years.
In 1967 to 1968 he taught 3rd grade religious instruction at Temple Beth Elohim and following his graduation from college, he continued 3rd grade instruction as well as 3rd year Hebrew. He subsequently became the temple's youngest trustee, vice-chairman, chairman and board president (at the age of 32). The latest honor was a family honor inasmuch as his father and maternal grandfather had held that title, while both were founding members of the congregation in 1953.
Stan was a founding member of the Putnam County Council for the Disabled (1985) and was its chairman for 4 years. On December 1, 2015, upon his retirement from the council for the Disabled, he was honored at the legislative meeting with a certificate citing his 30 years of volunteer work along with 4 years as chairman and his 24 years regarding Handicapped Parking.
For 10 years, Stan organized the Green Chimneys Thanksgiving Food Drive which donated to the Office of the Aging for needy senior citizens. His passions were his family, baseball trivia, cruises and 'Jeopardy'. He was also a founding member of the Neuro-Support Group at Putnam Hospital Center.
During his retirement, Stan volunteered at Hudson Valley CPA, handling spreadsheets re the agencies 70+ vehicles, pertinent to repair invoices along with gas purchases, including departmental purchases. He also served on the Board of Directors at HV-CPA.
Besides his wife Teddie of 46 years, Stan is survived by his son Michael J. Kahn and his wife Elizabeth of Shrub Oak, NY as well as his grandsons Matthew and Christopher. Stan was predeceased by his youngest son, Evan, 41, on March 24, 2020, his Yankee buddy.
A funeral service will be held Sunday, November 28, 2021, 1pm at King David Cemetery, Mill St., Putnam Valley, NY. Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster, NY will be assisting the family with funeral arrangements. www.beecherfuneralhome.com
