Susan "Sue" Marie Thompson, 65, of Johnston City, passed away on Monday, September 25, 2023, at St. Louis University Hospital, surrounded by her family.
Sue was born on November 6, 1957, in Herrin to James and Diane (Hunter) Gualdoni. She married the love of her life, Richard "Dick" Thompson on March 18, 1977. They shared 33 years of marriage together before he preceded her death on February 2, 2010.
Sue was a 1975 graduate of Johnston City High School. She had a servant's heart and worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant for nearly 40 years. Sue was previously employed at Shawnee Christian Nursing Home in Herrin for 30 years and later retired from River to River Nursing Home in Herrin.
Sue loved her family. Her greatest joy in life was being a mother and grandmother. "Maw Maw Sue" was her favorite title. Sue was kind- caring – and loving. Her family and friends will always remember her funny and dry sense of humor. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.
Sue was a phenomenal cook. She was best known for her lasagna, chicken and dumplings and her famous pies. She also enjoyed puzzle books, playing games, and spending time on her porch.
