Teddy Barry Cates, 65, of Havelock, North Carolina, passed away on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at home.
The family will have a private service at a later time.
Born in El Paso, Texas, and raised in California and North Carolina, Barry had a jovial spirit, and he never met a stranger. He worked in the pest control industry for many years but was most known for his artistic and building talents. An avid fisherman and fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Barry loved being outdoors and cherished coaching his children in sports for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Sheryl Cates of Havelock, NC; his mother, Naomi Cates of Burlington, NC; sisters, Lisa Ford of Topsail Beach, NC and Nikki Clements (Randy) of California; stepmother, Reva Cates of Hopewell, VA; stepbrothers, Gregg Clark of Stockton, CA, and Kevin Cates of Enon, VA; four children, James Cates (Brandie) of Newport, NC, Will Cates of Vanceboro, NC, Amber Lorenzo (Joe) of Pawleys Island, SC, and Kim Miller (Don) of Havelock, NC; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jim Cates, and sister, Cindy Williams.
