Thelma J. Lewis

BEVERLY- Thelma J. (Hansen) Lewis, of Beverly, passed away Wednesday morning, April 13, 2022 surrounded by her family at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading. She was the wife of the late Robert W. Lewis. Born in Beverly, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Madeline (Fader Parks Rafuse) Hansen.
Thelma graduated from Beverly High School in the Class of 1949.
She was a lover of the Arts, enjoying great music, and theater. She was active in the North Shore Skating Club, enjoyed being on the Membership Committee and following the many skaters who spent countless hours at ice arenas. Thelma enjoyed traveling, especially cruises. She loved reading and kept a list of her many books so she could keep track of her lending library. She dabbled in ceramics, providing figurines for all family members. Most of all she enjoyed her family. She kept up with her 6 children, 10 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren, affectionately known as "Mom", "Thelma Lew", and " Nana Thelma".
Thelma and Bob raised their family in Hamilton. She was predeceased by her son, Robert W. Lewis Jr. and daughter, Valerie J. Meyers (Randall). She is survived by her children: Karen F. Smerage (Charles) of Hamilton, Harold "Dean" Lewis (Wendy) of Fort Collins, CO., Charlene D. (Pellegrino) St. Jean (Jayson) of Beverly and Donna E. (Szczechowicz) Jones (Christopher) of Derry, N.H. Her Grandchildren: Robert W. Lewis III (Allison), Jessica L. Bailey (Chris), Amanda L. Smerage, Roger L. Smerage (Jillian), Gregory T. Lewis, Mitchell J. Lewis (fiance Ellen), Kenneth J. Pellegrino (Amy), Nicole D. Palmer (Richard), Zachary D. Szczechowicz, and Sage R. Szczechowicz. Her great grandchildren: Wyatt, Madeline, Lillian, Ariana, Sabrina, Sammy and Lucas. One sister: Hillary Mackey of Salem, and many nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Shirley Manchurowski, Sonja Hansen, Janice Tanzella, Harold "Douglas" Hansen and Pamela Spencer.
Her visiting hours will be held at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly on Friday (today), April 15, 2022 from 4-7 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. The family would request masks to be worn. Services and interment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, donations in Thelma's name may be made to the Sawtelle Family Hospice House.
