FARMINGDALE - Conrad Alton Lewis, 81, of Farmingdale, Maine, passed away on October 5, 2025. Born on July 5, 1944, in Bath, Maine, Conrad was a pillar of the Gardiner community. He devoted his life to education and coaching, shaping the lives of countless students and athletes over the years. His legacy as a beloved teacher, coach, and mentor will continue to resonate throughout the community.
Conrad proudly served in the US Army from 1964 - 1966 during the Vietnam War. Upon returning, he pursued a career in education, beginning his journey as a third-grade teacher at South Gardiner School in 1977. He then transitioned to a 6th-grade teacher at Gardiner Middle School in 1984. In 1989, he found his true calling as a Special Education/Resource teacher at Gardiner High School, where he also served as the department head. Conrad's life was full of achievements, but he took particular pride in his coaching career. He coached multiple sports, including JV boys' basketball, high school boys' basketball, girls' soccer, and assisted with the softball team. He was also a freshman, sophomore, and junior class advisor. His dedication was evident when the 1985 boys' basketball team participated in the Eastern Maine finals, a testament to his leadership.
Conrad was a beacon of dedication and commitment. Aside from his teaching career, he ran summer basketball programs and basketball clinics from 1988 - 1989 for area girls and boys in grades 3-8. He also served as a coach for the following area schools: Richmond, Gardiner, Lincoln Academy, Greeley, and Brunswick.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Kerrie Collins and spouse Bo, of Florida; three grandsons Owen Armstrong, of Florida, Tanner Coughlin, of Texas and Colton Coughlin, of Florida; Michelle Hunt and her children Emma and Noah; Michelle was a former athlete who became a fellow coach and a lifelong friend.
He was predeceased by his mother, Ruth Ham, and his father, Joyce Lewis.
