Lt. Col. Dennis James Dix Jr.

HALLOWELL – Lt. Col. Dennis James Dix, Jr. 58, of Hallowell, Maine, passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2025. Born on January 12, 1967, in Manhattan, New York, to Dennis Sr. and Sara Dix, Dennis spent most of his life dedicated to the service of others in both his professional and personal life. A beloved husband, Father, son, brother and dedicated social worker, his presence will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Moving to Hallowell in 1976, where his mother, Sara, owned and operated several businesses including the Second Street Bed & Breakfast. His father was Maine's Director of Immunization.
Dennis graduated from Hall-Dale High School and went on to earn a double major in Psychology and Communication from the University of Southern Maine. He also graduated from the University of Maine School of Social Work. Dennis spent his career as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and served as a Lt. Col. in the US Army. He was the Director of the Access Center at Kennebec Behavioral Health and served in the Army Reserve Medical Corps. Dennis was an Adjunct Instructor for the Kennebec Valley Community College and University of New England. He was awarded the Achievement Award as the Combat Stress Team OIC in Operation Pac-Warrior in 2009 and was honored with the Army Achievement Medal for Access to Behavioral Health Care at Fort Drum MEDAC in 2001. Dennis enjoyed hunting and fishing and has completed three different style black belts in karate ranging from Korea, New York, and Maine. Dennis enjoyed playing basketball and playing guitar in his free time, he also enjoyed camping trips with his family. Dennis enjoyed telling stories with his infectious laugh and could draw the attention of thousands, so many turned to him for guidance and his wisdom.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dennis Sr.
Dennis is survived by his loving wife, Michelle Dix; four amazing children, Anthony Dix, Kaylee Bickford, Aiden Dix, and Brianna Dix; his mother, Sara Dix and King Parsells; sister, Dena Dix; brother, Tom Dix and wife Sarah (Dunckel); four nephews, Samuel, Austin, Gabe, and Nick; niece, Lady Charlie the VII of Willard. Also, three grandchildren, Aurora, Logan, and Jasmine. Along with many other amazing relatives. Dennis had four close friends that always helped his family when he was away, David Marquis (Diesel), Dwayne Kalloch, Josh Twombly, and Mike Johnson. along with so, so, many amazing friends.
The memory of his compassionate spirit, deep wisdom, and unwavering dedication to his work will live on in the many lives he touched.
Visitation will take place on Monday, October 27, 2025, from 2-4 and 5-7 pm at Camp Chamberlain, Maine National Guard Joint Force Headquarters, located at 23 Blue Star Avenue, Augusta, Maine. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at 11:00am at Saint Augustine Catholic Church, 75 Northern Avenue, Augusta, Maine. A Military Committal Service will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at 1:00pm at Central Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 163 Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta, Maine.
