In 1966, he joined the New York City Police Department as a Patrolman in the Housing Division, primarily serving in Harlem, NY, where he worked for 20 years.
In addition to being a police officer, he served in the National Guard for 18 years.
Post retirement, Ernest returned to his hometown of Sumter, SC.
