Vernon Lee Shankle was born August 18, 1947 at Ft. Clayton, Panama Canal Zone, to parents, Charles Vernon and Philomena Eudora (Li) Shankle. He passed from this life September 30, 2023 in Round Rock, Texas at the age of 76. Vernon had lived in Georgetown since 2013, moving here from Huntsville, Alabama. Vernon attended the University of Texas. He received a Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering; a a Master Degree in Civil Engineering and a Master of Science Degree in Business Administration. He worked for many years for the Department of the Army, retiring in 2007. He and Judith Work were united in marriage on November 25, 1970 in El Paso. Vernon was a 32° Mason and a member of the San Gabriel Masonic Lodge of Georgetown and the Austin Valley Scottish Rite, where he was very involved in the Dyslexic Foundation and Fantastic Teeth, both programs of Masonic Children and Family Services of Texas. Vernon enjoyed collecting stamps and coins and swimming; as well as spending time with his grandchildren, family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Judy Shankle; son Vernon Charles Shankle and wife Clarissa and their daughter Hayden and son John Paul Shankle and wife and their 2 children.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 11:00 am at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home, 2900 Williams Drive, Georgetown, Texas. Followed by a Celebration of Life at San Gabriel Masonic Lodge 89, 900 N College St, Georgetown, TX 78626 at 1:00 pm.
