Janet Huber Obituary

Janet S. "Bonnie" Huber, a resident of Tunkhannock, passed away on Jan. 18, 2012, at Hospice Community Care, Dunmore, after a lengthy illness.
She was born in Scranton on Oct. 11, 1943, to the late Lt. Colonel (U.S. Air Force, Ret.) John F., Jr. and Janet M. Stankowski.
Raised in a military family, she moved frequently and travelled extensively in the U.S. and overseas. She attended Elk Lake High School in Dimock and graduated from Washingtonville High School, Newburgh, N.Y. Following graduation, she attended Keystone College, LaPlume, and Loretto Heights College, Denver, Colo.
Prior to her marriage, she was a flight attendant with Northeast Airlines. While living in Northern Virginia, Bonnie was employed in management capacities, culminating in her serving as administrative assistant to the Director of the United States Information Agency, Washington, D.C.
She was married for more than 45 years to Col. (U.S. Air Force, Ret.) A. Stacy Huber, whose career she shared and supported for nearly 28 years, with assignments in Maine, Alaska, Nebraska, Alabama, and Virginia, among others. She worked diligently in base and unit charitable and family support activities.
For more than 20 years, Bonnie was a volunteer, preparing and then decorating the White House for Christmas during the Reagan, Bush, and Clinton administrations, where she earned the unofficial title of "Bow-ologist-in-Chief." She truly enjoyed this wonderful program, of which she felt privileged to be part. She also served on the Presidential Inauguration Committee for President Reagan in 1981 and 1985.
Upon their retirement from the service, the family returned to Northeast Pennsylvania, settling in Tunkhannock, where she continued her community service. She served as, among other things: chairman of the Tyler Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Antique Show; an emergency medical technician with Tunkhannock Ambulance Association for many years; Republican Committee Woman; and in other civic activities.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sister, Jayn S. Montieth, Tunkhannock; brother, Col. (U.S. Air Force, Ret.) John F. Stankowski, III; and aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews, by whom she will be greatly missed.
A memorial prayer service was conducted at the Harding-Litwin Funeral Home, Tunkhannock, by Father Richard Polmounter, Pastor of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, on Jan. 22. Interment planned for Arlington National Cemetery, at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Nativity BVM Church, 99 East Tioga Street, Tunkhannock, PA 18657.
