Peggy Clayton Obituary

A memorial service for Peggy Ann (Brown) Clayton, 45, of Kirtland, will be 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 7, 2011, at Old South Church, UCC, 9802 Chillicothe Road, Kirtland, 44094.
Mrs. Clayton died suddenly Jan. 3, 2011, at Lake West Hospital after a fall at her home.
She was born on April 19, 1965, at Huron Road Hospital. She grew up in Richmond Heights, and attended Richmond Heights High School and The Ohio State University. She earned her Masters in Education from John Carroll University and went on to teach in the Beachwood School System before retiring in 2005 to stay at home with her children. While at Beachwood, she taught home economics and coached volleyball. She was a resident of Kirtland since 2003 and previously resided in Mentor. She was very proud of her career and looked forward every day to going to work, even through her more than 20 year journey with M.S. She wanted so much to help be a part of the cure. Her children and family gave her the most enjoyment in life and she treasured spending time with them as much as possible. Her family says she would do anything for you, was quite feisty at times and always took a straight-on approach but always with love. She volunteered her time as much as she was able at her children's school and her church, Old South.
She is survived by her husband of 17 years, John; children, Courtney Ann and Nicholas Martiné; parents, Nancy (Redmond) and Edward Brown; siblings, David (Beth) Brown, Wendy (Michael) Smith, Amy (Robert) Lupo and Steven (Christie) Brown; mother-in-law, Eva Clayton and siblings-in-law, Lynda Zamora, José (Geri) Clayton and Patrick Zamora. She was the adored aunt of Kyle, Austin, Robbie, Samantha, Kayla, Mandy and Justin, Armando, Jennifer and Kristen; dear niece; cousin; and friend of many.
The family will receive friends to pay tribute and celebrate the life of Peggy from 3 to 5 and 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at The DeJohn-Flynn-Mylott Funeral Home of Willoughby Hills, 28890 Chardon Road (between Bishop and Route 91). Pastor Mark Suriano will officiate the services. Cremation by DeJohn Crematory.

Mrs. Clayton was my homeroom teacher in Beachwood several years ago (in middle school!) She was Mrs. Brown at the time.

I was terribly sorry to hear about her passing. She was an amazing person, an upbeat and enthusiastic teacher, and a gifted mentor. Her passing is a true loss. I wish the very best to her family during this time of transition.

Dear John, Courtney, Nico and family,
We are so very sorry to hear of Peggy's passing over. Know that she is in a better place. I will miss her great sense of humor and beautiful smile. Please know that my parents admired and loved Peggy. The days and weeks ahead are going to be so tough, we will keep you in our heartfelt thoughts and prayers. I will be thinking of you and yours with a heavy heart. May God bless you and keep you close to Him. I am including a poem which a friend sent to us when my beloved parents passed over. I hope that you might find some comfort in its words. Take care of eachother.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay. I'm writing this from Heaven. Here I dwell with God above. Here there's no more tears of sadness, here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight. Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night. That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through, God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone. As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on. I need you here badly; you're part of my plan. There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that He wished for me to do. And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you. And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight. God and I are closest to you...in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears. But do not be afraid to cry, it does relieve the pain. Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned. But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand. But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is over. I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb; but together we can do it by taking one day at a time. It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain, then you can say to God at night..."My day was not in vain." And now I am contented...that my life has been worthwhile, knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low, just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go. When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind; I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go...from that body to be free, remember you're not going, you're coming here to me.

John,

I am so sorry for your loss. Peggy was a wonderful and sweet woman. You and Peggy were great neighbors (Mentor) and we were said to hear you were moving into Kirtland, but I am fortunate enough to be able to run into you once in a while to say hi since I work in the city. Please know you and your family are in all the thoughts and prayers of everyone here at the Kirtland Fire Dept., including me. Vicki (old neighbor behind you in Mentor)
